Puppet Team Learns About God and Family

Austin Cayton, a member of the United Methodist Church in Hermitage, Tennessee, received his God and Family award in November 2005 and shared what he had learned with his puppet team.

Although he was recognized by both his church and Pack, it was his presentation to his puppet team that Austin enjoyed the most.

Austin is involved in a puppet ministry. His puppet team practices every Sunday evening during the winter months and attends a training seminar and competition in the spring. They performed at the Donelson Senior Citizen Annual Labor Day picnic, the Church Fall Party, the Children’s Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, and the McKendree Manor Senior Citizen Residential and Nursing Home. Their performances are to music and the young people operate their puppets to move to the music. Austin has two puppets: Mr. Italiano and Grandpa.

It was during the devotion time that Austin shared what he had learned about the God and Family program. He explained the steps to making a pizza and told how pizza related to families. They also enjoyed a pizza party together.

This is the second of the God and Country awards Austin has earned. His service project for the God and Me award involved asking the Sunday School classes at his church to contribute money for the soldiers. He collected about $250 and then purchased items they had requested and mailed it to them.
